Salicylic Cream Info – Useful Applications

I would like to start off by telling you about exactly what salicylic cream is. Basically it is a cream meant for external use that contains the ingredient salicylic acid. Salicylic acid cream is a topical salicylate and what it does is cause the skin to swell, soften then peel in order to alleviate the symptoms of certain conditions. Generally it would be prescribed by doctors or dermatologists to cure body or as an acne cream.

The word “Salicylic” literally means of or derived from salicylic acid; technically is a colorless crystalline organic beta hydroxy acid similar to acetylsalicylic acid, the active component in aspirin.

Salicylic acid also has other applications other than skin conditions. Historically it has been prescribed to ease aches and pains, reduce fevers, and prior to it’s dermatological application, was generally used as an anti-inflammatory. But for the purpose of this page I will only be talking about it’s dermatological applications both as a cream and a peel.

Some other uses for salicylic acid and cream for external use would be for the treatment of acne as I mentioned, corns, keratosis pilaris, psoriasis, calluses, and warts. It is even used in certain prescription and over the counter shampoos in the treatment of dandruff.
